County Redesigning 60' Fitzgerald Marine Reserve Bridge

The County is in the process of redesigning the FMR bridge to address concerns regarding water quality and a recent archeological survey that uncovered Native American kitchen tools located less then 4 feet under the soil of the proposed location of the west abutment/bridge footing.  The archeological site requires permitting from the Army Corps of Engineers and the State Office of Historical Preservation.

The County should present the revised bridge design to the community for review.

Last fall the County proposed paving a 10' wide asphalt trail with 2' gavel shoulders, total trail width would be 14'. Some County maintained streets in Seal Cove are only 12' wide.

Based on concerns raised by the community at the October 31, 2009, FMR public meeting Dave Holland, Director of County Parks promised to revise plans for the Dardenelle Trail.  Holland said he would hold a second public meeting to present the revised plans.  To-date revised plans have not been presented to the public.

Both hard-packed soil and DG are ADA compliant and appropriate for this location.
